In order to play Across the Bridge Drinking Game, you really don’t need much. In fact, you can play it with just one other person, if all you want is a drinking game for 2 people. But of course you can keep adding people.

Here are the essentials for learning how to play Across the Bridge Drinking Game with rules:

How to Play Across the Bridge Drinking Game With Rules

Before going into game play, the best place to start is understanding which cards have the power to make you drink. Below are the values of each non-numbered card, in terms of how many shots they’re worth.

Across the Bridge Drinking Game
Well, that’s one way to shuffle.

Here’s what each face card represents:

Jack = 1 shot
Queen = 2 shots
King = 3 shots
Ace = 4 shots

How to Begin Across the Bridge Drinking Game

#1. First, the dealer shuffles the cards and places the top 10 cards face down on the table, in a straight side-by-side line. This line of 10 cards is the “bridge” between the group of players.

#2. Then, the group chooses a lucky soul to go first. This person is going to walk the plank first, so to speak. Flip a coin, play “nose goes,” or whatever you need to do to get the game rolling!

Each Player’s Turn Going “Across the Bridge”

Don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense, there are also video demos for visual learners!

#1. At the beginning of their turn, the player starts by flipping the card closest to them.

How To Play Across the Bridge Drinking Game
Shuffle faster and better with a cheap automated card shuffler

If this first player flips over a numbered card, no drinking happens and they just continue to flip over cards until a face card turns up.

#2. When a player finally does flip over a face card, they take as many shots as the card represents. But their turn still isn’t over.

#3. After drinking, each player has to “replace the bridge” with the same amount of cards as shots they drank.

So, if a player flipped over a King and drank 3 times, they have to add 3 of their own cards to the bridge, face down.

#4. After “rebuilding the bridge,” the player’s turn is over and the next player starts flipping over cards.

How Across the Bridge Drinking Game Ends

Simply put, the Across the Bridge Drinking Game ends when a player happens to flip over the last card on the bridge if the last card is a number card. If it’s a face card, the cards need to be shuffled again so the player can continue their bridge walk of shame.

Even after one player has won, the game isn’t finished for the rest of the players. After the winner steps out, the cards are shuffled again and the whole process repeats itself until all the players are out.

Variations of How to Play Across the Bridge Drinking Game with Rules

Since Across the Bridge is a simple game, variations don’t get too complicated. But there are a few small modifications you can make – below are our 3 favorite Across the Bridge Drinking Game Variations.

“The Wall of China”

In the “Wall of China” variation, game play is about the same, with the exception of putting out replacement cards. In this twist on Across the Bridge, the replacement cards belong alongside each other rather than on top of each other.

As you can imagine, the line gets verrry long; sometimes you even have to push tables together. But it’s a fun variation because it shows visually where the game started and ended.

“Upping the Ante”

Fun Drinking Games With Cards

Another slight variation you can try with Across the Bridge Drinking Game is to increase the amount you drink for each face card. Basically, each face card’s value increases by two.

So:

Jack = 2 shots
Queen = 3 shots
King = 4 shots
Ace =  5 shots

It probably goes without saying, but you should only use this variation when you’re taking swigs of beer. That many shots of liquor can get out of hand.

“Liquor Shots”

In this third variation of Across the Bridge Drinking Game, you again switch up the meanings of the face cards.

But instead of adding more shots, you change the beverage of choice. Yet another way to separate the boys from the men and the girls from the women as you exchange beer for hard liquor!

It doesn’t matter what liquors you ultimately assign to the cards, but here’s how we play it at Chuggie:

Jack = Jack Daniels
Queen = Tequila
King = Scotch or Bourbon
Ace = A shot of your finest rum or gin, please

“Speed Walking”

Finally, you can make Across the Bridge Drinking Game much more intense by making it a speed game.

The only difference with the rules is that you keep going after the deck of cards is gone, if your crew can handle it. Once one person crosses the bridge, it’s immediately on to the next.

You can almost compare it to a relay race for beer. It’s a great idea, but just expect to have a messy slumber party of sorts. Because I doubt your friends will make it past the door after playing this version all night!

  • Next, someone must spread the deck of cards in a circle around the alcohol of your choice and make sure all the cards are touching.
  • Then, each person draws a card from the circle and acts out each card with their specific meaning.
  • If you’re a visual person, don’t worry. There’s a video demo coming up.

What do all the cards mean?

Everyone has to react according to the number or face of the card. Because it’s a long list, we’ll break it into the “numbered card rules” and the “face card rules.”

Waterfall The Drinking Game With Rules: Numbered Cards

2 – “You”– When you draw a two, you get to choose a person and make them drink.

3 – “Me” – If you’re lucky enough to draw a three, this is all you, man.

Card #6 – “Chicks drink!”

4 – “Floor” – For number four, everyone needs to get low and touch the floor. Last person must drink from the Death Cup concoction. Yum!

5 – “Guys” – Drink up, men.

6 – “Chicks” – Now it’s the ladies’ turn.

7 – “Heaven” – Remember the game “Seven minutes in heaven?” For card number seven, everyone has to reach their arms up as high as they can.

8 – “Date”– For this one, the player gets to choose a drinking “date” for the game. “Now, which one of you lucky souls gets to drink with me the entire night?”

9 – “Rhyme” – Obviously, “Rhyme” means you have to start speaking in rhymes. Just don’t be that guy that starts with orange.

10 – “Categories” – When a player draws a ten card, they call “categories.” For example, categories can include cars, state capitals, or names of bands. Go nuts!

Waterfall The Drinking Game With Rules: Face Cards

how to play waterfall the drinking game with rules
Other than booze and cups, all you really need is a deck of cards. (Amazon link)

Jack – “Social” – Players act like the bride and groom just entered the reception hall. Everyone gets to drink!

Queen- “Question Master” – Catch someone who doesn’t respond in a question and make them drink!

King- “ Rule Master” – Come up with whatever you’d like, accents, names, anything that when broken will liven up the party (Buffalo, dominant hand, blue man?)

Ace- “ THE ACTUAL WATERFALL”– Sort of like dominoes, where one piece can’t drop till the piece before it knocks it over. Same concept, except minus the fist fight. Start it up, choose who follows you on your left or the right side of you and keep the party drinking!

There are three ways Waterfalls the Drinking Game can end:

  • You all have drawn the entire deck of cards.
  • Someone knocks the cards over.
  • Or, *sadness*, the rum is gone.

The saddest reason to end Waterfall is because you ran out of booze.

Variations for Waterfall the Drinking Game With Rules

Now, you might be thinking this sounds a lot like other drinking games. (It reminds me of Moose the Drinking Game, actually.)

Here are some variations to Waterfall the Drinking Game to switch things up:

Never Have I Ever Idea Cards (Click for examples)

When you draw a 4, call it “ whores.” Alongside this name change, call a 6 “dicks.” It’ll add a whole new raunchy side to your night.

Two Random Variations:

  1. Use a 10 card to represent “Never Have I Ever.”
  2. Instead of “Social,” use a Jack as a “wild card.”

There are several substitutions for the “Rule Master” (King Card):

Buffalo – Make anyone who isn’t drinking out of their dominant hand take a swig.

How to Play Waterfall The Drinking Game
Just imagine this dude is shrunk and sitting on your head.

Little blue man – Every time someone has to drink, they have to pretend there’s a tiny blue man sitting on top of their beverage. Before they take a drink, they need to gently take the little man off the top before they drink and need to remember to bring him back on top after they’ve had their sip.

No names – Basically, no one is allowed to call anyone by their name.

Drink, drank, drunk – During this turn, you can’t say any of these three words. This is surprisingly difficult in the middle of a fun drinking game!

Accents – Everyone has to speak in an accent. This rule turns out to be very entertaining, especially when your British accent sounds more like a sad attempt at a Jamaican accent.

Waterfall Drinking Game
“Drink up, honey!” Follow link for Pictures.

To really kick it up a notch:

Instead of just following a rule for one round, follow these 2 rules for the entire game.

  • The game ends the moment someone breaks the “seal” or the circle of cards. Then that lucky person has the task of drinking or chugging whatever alcohol of choice is in the center.
  • You can also turn the middle drink into a “death cup.” This one’s deadly.
  • Have each person pour a little bit of their individual drink into the middle throughout the game when they draw a card.
  • Then whoever breaks the seal has to drink this (hopefully not too disgusting) mixture of beer, liquor, wine, and whatever else…

Crazy Eights The Drinking Game – The Best Drinking Games

Players: 4-8 | Type: Competitive | Drink: Beer/Liquor | Good Times: 😉 😉 😉 😉

Crazy Eights the Drinking Game Overview:

This is wild game will keep you and your friends on your toes for the whole ride through. Back in the day, long nights were spent with the parents and grandparents reminiscing over butt naked baby photos, card games such as go fish, and a little about of television with Nickelodeon and Hey Arnold.

Now with everyone bringing back bell-bottoms and chokers, here’s the next best thing.

Just think, it’s Saturday night, you want to have a good time but not sure where to go? Or maybe you’re throwing a party and you need to get the good times rolling? Well, look no further. This exciting game begins with eights but it ends in turmoil and spilled beer among friends. Let’s do this! Here’s how to get started playing Crazy Eights the Drinking Game.

Crazy Eights the Drinking Game

Crazy Eights the Drinking Game Equipment:

A Deck of cards

Friends

Beer mug

Liquor

Shot glasses

How to Play Crazy Eights the Drinking Game: The Rules

To start off play, the cards are shuffled and placed in the center of the table. The eight cards are taken out of the deck and placed in a vertical row. The first player places either a 7 or a 9 next to one of the cards. Those two cards being placed equal out to two drinks which are then passed on to any of the other fortunate participants. This play continues as the next players lay down more cards sequentially. If a person happens to not have a card to play that continues the number sequence then that person, of course, has to drink and then place a new card.

This continues for every card skipped in the sequence. For example, if the last card played was an eight and you don’t have anything to play except for a 5, you would have to drink for the seven, six, and the five. This continues over and over until the deck is gone or someone bows out, whichever comes first.

Variations on Crazy Eights the Drinking Game:

Crazy Eights the Drinking GameThere are a couple variations to this game such as using a face card of your choice and double the number of drinks for skips in a play. Some of the funniest ones include the 10 beers in one rule. In this rule, each 10 skips or drinks then equals one beer. When you reach 10 drinks you have to automatically grab a beer and shotgun it. It can be fun doing this as a group, although I might suggest it be done outside so it doesn’t get too messy.

The other challenge is to play it like poker or go fish by making sets.  For those of you who don’t remember, a set is a group of four or even pair in some version of the cards of the same type, such as diamond, spade, clover, or heart. This version is a little bit wild and slightly more interesting but it, unfortunately, doesn’t last long, especially when all your friends start to not be able to tell the difference between a spade and a clover.

Finally, you can use the distribution version. For each card or for every other card skipped, the player has to take a drink as many times as the highest card skipped. For example, if they needed to place a 7 and they skipped the cards all the way to a 5, the opponent needs to take a drink or shot 7 times or has the opportunity to distribute his drinks among all the friends. This version is also called the giver since of course, we love spreading the love. After all, sharing is caring!

Crazy Eights the Drinking Game Final Thoughts:

In my opinion, this is one of the random kooky drinking game picks. If you loved dominoes as a kid this is definitely going to be a winner in your book, but it’s one you for sure need to pay attention. If math, algebra, or counting down from 10 is not your forte, you might want to decide on a different game.

Did you enjoy this game or any versions similar? You can also check out “Go Fish” or “Across the Bridge.” There are various things that can be added to make this game even tougher but make sure not to add too much, you want to make sure the group hopefully makes it through at least one round of the game. Even if it’s pushing it.

Go Fish the Drinking Game

Drink Like A Fish With Go Fish The Drinking Game

Players: 2-6 | Type: Social | Drink: Beer | Good Times: 😉 😉 😉 😉

Go Fish the Drinking Game Overview:

Some of you may know this beloved card game as a past time that was shared with your grandparents on long summer nights before the crazy nights out took over. Well, that old version just got a whole lot better. Simple and chill this is the perfect game for a night in with friends and tall cold beer. All you need is at least one other person, a deck of cards and you’re set to play Go Fish The Drinking Game.

How to Play Go Fish the Drinking Game: The Rules

For those of you poor souls who have never experienced this game, we’ll break it down. The goal is to get as many “books” as you can within a given game. A book is a set of four cards that have to match by type, hearts, clovers, spades, and or diamonds. The number of cards you begin with all depends on the number of pals that are playing. If it’s just you and another person then each player receives 7 cards. If it’s more than two, the amount gets bumped down to five cards a person.

After everyone’s settled, the remaining cards are set aside in the center and this becomes the pile where everyone takes from. The first person starts by asking the person to their right if they have a certain card. If they have it in their hand, they need to cough it up and hand it over.

Now if they don’t, the player responds by saying “Go Fish” and ends their turn. For example, say you ask for a 5, and they have two in their hand they need to hand over both. At this point, you have the chance to ask for more cards and continue to do so until the other player does not have a card you seek and then you can draw from the pile. If you happen to grab the card you asked for, show the group, and continue your turn. If you don’t, then your turn ends. This process continues back and forth until the deck is finished.

Now the drinking game is based on the original with an add-on. After each time someone has a “book” of a matching set, someone drinks. If it’s two people, then obviously your friend is taking a gulp or a shot. If it’s a group, the player can choose their victim.

When a winner is chosen, the automatic loser (if it’s two) has to take two shots or drink twice or the winner gets to choose who enjoys a double helping of liquor.

Variations of Go Fish the Drinking Game:

So throughout the years, this simple card game has been given a couple modifications.

Drink 1,2,3 – Every time someone says “Go Fish” the other player has to drink. Every time a player has to hand over a card, drink twice. (3x for face cards) Every time a “book” is put down, the opponent drinks two times.

GhotiAlso known as reverse go fish. The difference is after each payer has their card, they must face down and each player cannot look at their own hand. When a player calls for a card they have to call on someone they believe has it. If they do, the pair (both that card and one in your hand are removed), if they don’t, their turn is over. You drink each time a pair is removed from someone’s hand. The game ends when there’s only 1 person left standing.

Good luck to ya’ – When a player gets a pair, the other person drinks. When someone gets a card they asked for, the opponent drinks. At the end of the game, the losers drink as many times as the winner has pairs. So pretty much someone’s drinking 99% of the entire game.

Lucky Number – Basically the same concept as the one before with a minor twist on this version, the number of times someone drinks depends on the number of the card. For example, say I asked for a jack and you handed it to me…get comfortable because you’re going to be drinking for quite some time.

Shot on shots- Finally, if you’re trying to forget the night, switch it up by taking a shot rather then just drinking a glass of beer or hot liquor.

Additional Drinking Game Equipment

Final Thoughts on Go Fish the Drinking Game:

So you think you’re ready for this game? It’s a quick simple way to reach a certain level of obliteration if you’re up for it, especially playing it with one of the variations listed above. Choose wisely, be safe, and have one hell of a good time.

Cheers!
